A respected Canberra environmental consultant has been awarded the Certified Environmental Practitioner of the Year Award at the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand's Annual Conference Gala Dinner.
The award was presented at the Hotel Realm in Canberra on Tuesday 20th October.
Mark O'Brien is a certified environmental practitioner (CEnvP) who has made an outstanding contribution to environmental practice in recent years, particularly in the areas of carbon emission assessments and climate change mitigation.
Mark is recognised for his ongoing achievements, including involvement in the largest single year verified greenhouse mitigation project in Queensland during 2006-2007, and most recently, as director of Beyond Neutral Pty Ltd, working with the Hibiscus Films production "My Year without Sex', (launched nationally in May 28, 2009) to reduce the film's carbon footprint and improve its environmental and social cultural sustainability , and producing and publicly releasing the first carbon footprint case study of an Australian film.
The film went on to win the Australian Directors' Guild GRASS Award in recognition of its minimal environmental impact. http://www.adg.org.au/awards/aspx
The Certified Environmental Practitioners Scheme Chairman, Nigel Murphy, said "in recognizing Mark's achievements we thank him for his ongoing passion and commitment to the environment, and for facilitating awareness in another industry of how environmental sustainability and carbon footprint reduction can be achieved, hopefully creating an industry benchmark against which other film productions will be measured going forward"
